Les
Didier was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio where he began working in
the graphic arts field. Following a four year stint in the USAF,
where he also worked in graphic arts, he moved to Wisconsin to further
his career as an advertising art illustrator. However, it soon
became apparent that a more artistic outlet was needed, as an escape
from the rigors of commercial illustration. Subject matter was
abundant, and soon the lakes and forests of Wisconsin became his second
home. His painting has primarily focused on wildlife subjects,
in a unique style that combines realism with interpretive settings and
backgrounds. Collectors are very enthusiastic about his original
paintings, which hang in numerous private and corporate collections.
Les Didier's work has been included a number of times in the prestigious "Birds in Art" exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, Wisconsin, and their national tour. He also exhibits at the Miller Art Museum, Sturgeon Bay, WI, and at other museums and galleries throughout the country. He was named "Artist of the Year" in 1986 by PBS Channel 10 in Milwaukee. Won the State Waterfowl Stamp contest in 1995, 1998, 2001,and was also selected as the Wisconsin State Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Artist for 1996. His paintings are published as limited edition prints and collector plates and distributed nationally. Other awards include: The 1996 Nature in Art exhibit, Hong Kong. 1988 Wisconsin Waterfowler's Artist of the year. Exhibited in Alaska 2003 A Celebration Of Wildlife invitational. Les has given up his commercial work to devote more time to painting what he likes best. He notes that observing, sketching, and painting nature "has to be one of the most rewarding and satisfying professions." Be sure to also visit Les Didier's Limited Edition Wildlife Art. |
