1. New Artwork - Martin R. Murk has added three new paintings each 9" x 12" and priced $600 and below. Two have been placed in our Bird Art Gallery and the other in our Wildlife Gallery. "Curiosity" could, and maybe should, be in our Wildlife Gallery due to the relative size of the fawn, but we gave precedence to the goldfinch.
Les Didier, a friend and friendly rival of "Marty", is not to be outdone by him, has added five new paintings, three miniatures containing a bald eagle and goldfinches, one major painting of a great blue heron, and the fifth of mallards landing on a secluded lake. Both Martin and Les appear to be partial to goldfinches, and we're pleased that they are.
A local art gallery have decided to sell a major Don Kloetzke oil painting they've owned for many years rather than part with it. It was painted in 1985. Don's new major pieces are selling for around $10,000 these days, far more than the gallery paid way back when, but they are asking $3,000 for it. The work contains 7 pintail ducks (green wing), a number factor that significantly affects a work's price. It's a wonderful action piece for the home or office.
We have also added a major piece by the famed air brush artist Jerry Gadamus. We love to show Jerry's major paintings, everyone of them are magnificent in our opinion, but they typically sell before the paint is dry. This piece is of a red tail hawk, which is a popular bird with our clients.
All four artists we're proud to say live and work in Wisconsin.
You can view this new body of work by going to our home page - http://www.originalbirdart.com - and in our Table of Contents click on "Announcements/What's New". You will then be at the bottom of the page where you may click on the link of your choice.
2. Art Sales - Neil Allen reports that he sold his recently added "Full Moon - Barn Owl" and his "Toco Toucan". Les Didier, who just added new work, reports that he has sold two paintings on our site, "In the Daisies - Goldfinch" and "Summer Fields - Whippoorwill", this latter one we considered unique, interesting, and considered buying it ourselves. Tim Hough, who is adding new work in 2 weeks, reports that he has sold "Black Throated Green Warbler". Ria Winters also reports that she sold a favorite of ours, "Eagle Owls", and George Woodford reports that he sold "Dozing" at a local exhibition. Ron Lape reports that he sold his "Lion Falls - Mt. Lion" that appears in our Wildlife Gallery.
Well, we're sorry to say that none of the above works were purchased by any of our "Gallery Friends." We hope that none of the works sold were favorites of yours as they were ours! Given that possibility, each of our artists will consider doing a similar painting for you.
3. Miscellaneous - We heard recently on a television news program from two ostensibly qualified speakers that "over the years the value of original art and limited editions have increased more on the average than the value of equities in the stock market" Frankly we were surprised to hear that statement and regard it with a fair degree of skepticism. The two gentleman represented an auction house where hundreds of thousand and millions of dollars are bid on a single painting from, mostly, deceased artists such as the likes of Rembrandt and Picasso. These two gallery representatives, however, did not relate their remark to those high priced works but to "lower priced" artwork, perhaps from our contemporary artists. Our position has always been to buy because you like the work 1st. and 2nd. that it just might appreciate. Of course an artist may be better known than others and his or her work may increase in value more so than the work of lessor known artists.
Being also an investor in stocks and funds for many years, there may be some truth in what they said, especially in light of the recent decline in the stock market. There is no doubt that we would be pleased to see our art purchases increase in value, if only to affirm that we have good taste in our choices!
